Cows that produce more milk using less feed could help dairy farmers around the world combat rising feed costs, which show no sign of easing. Results from our five commercial dairy farms in the Netherlands, where we collect feed intake data on a daily basis, show that the 25% best animals for feed efficiency need up to 25% less feed for the same amount of milk compared to the lowest animals for feed efficiency.
