Strong breeding philosophy continues to drive CRV’s Fleckvieh progress

Efficiency and health remain the cornerstones of our Fleckvieh (FV) breeding philosophy. By focusing on balanced performance traits and long-term sustainability, we continue to deliver genetics that support modern dairy and beef production. Our breeding goal centers on cows that provide sufficient milk and components, combined with excellent exterior—particularly in feet and legs and udder quality—while also maintaining strong beef performance.

Equally important are traits that ensure cows are easy to manage throughout their entire lifetime. This includes robust health, improved udder health, strong longevity, and highly fertile daughters. Together, these core elements define the unique strengths of our FV program and set our genetics apart.

“Our focus on efficiency, health and functional traits is consistently reflected in the progress we see in each proof run,” says Tobias Lerner, Global Product Manager Fleckvieh at CRV. “The combination of strong proven sires and an increasingly diverse genomic lineup ensures that breeders can rely on CRV for future-oriented Fleckvieh genetics.”

Update on proven bulls

This proof run brings several positive developments to our proven lineup. We are pleased to introduce Hopfen, now ranking fifth among all FV proven bulls. His balanced proof profile further strengthens our offering in this segment.

In addition, the established sires Meriol PS, Virginia, Warlock, and Makay continue to show solid and reliable performance.

Han Solo, introduced in August, has successfully confirmed his values and further supports the stability of our proven portfolio.

Update on the genomic line-Up

Our genomic lineup grows further with six new bulls joining the portfolio: Hatil Pp, Hotrock, Maldini Pp, Maraton, Milupa PP, and Wax PP. This expansion highlights the broad variety within our genomic offering and brings fresh opportunities for targeted breeding strategies.

A particularly encouraging trend is the increasing share of polled genetics (PP, Pp, PS). The rising availability and strong performance of these sires are accelerating their use. We anticipate that only a small number of non-polled bulls will remain in the future as demand continues shifting toward hornless genetics.

Summary

The latest proof run confirms the strength and stability of our breeding program. With a clear focus on efficiency, health, and balanced performance, both our proven and genomic bulls continue to move the Fleckvieh breed forward. The introduction of new high-ranking sires—especially within the fast-growing polled segment—ensures that breeders have access to a diverse and future-oriented selection of genetics.
