The 2020-2021 financial year presented a new cow who produced 100,000 kg of milk in Flanders in record time. It took Loli van het Zomerbloemhof just 1,933 days to smash the magic barrier of 100,000 kg of milk.
This Goli daughter owned by Dries Lahousse and Veerle Lagache from Elverdinge started lactating in 2015. ‘She immediately progressed to 48 litres a day, and was the first heifer we have ever had to dry off with more than 40 litres of milk,’ says Dries Lahousse. ‘So, not only is she a super milk cow, she is also extremely persistent.’

Peak production of 75 kg a day

Loli, who is now milked by robots, peaked in her fifth lactation at 75 kg of milk a day. In fact, her average daily production exceeds 50 litres of milk. ‘Loli still scores more than 2,000 kg of milk for her genomic breeding value, so that figure was an extremely accurate prediction,’ says Lahousse.

In addition to her persistency, Lahousse describes Loli as an attentive cow with a hard temperament who is never sick or lame. ‘She milks well at the robot, and eats a lot at the feed fence,’ says Lahousse enthusiastically. ‘On top of that, she falls pregnant quickly and has very healthy udders.’

Herdmate in second place

Loli van het Zomerbloemhof succeeds Lithiumdochter 1275, owned by Patrick Claeys from Zomergem, as the fastest cow to produce 100 tonnes of milk. This cow passed the limit of 100,000 kg of milk in 2,128 days in 2017. In Loli's wake is her herdmate Loty van het Zomerbloemhof, who was pipped at the post to end in second place in the league table of fastest 100-tonners during the same sampling period in June. The Alta Iota daughter took 2,005 days to produce her 100,000 kgs of milk.
