Delta Boulevard for lots of milk from fertile cows

“A working cow just the way I like them.” With these words, Koen Nooijen describes Delta Margit. “She is beautifully built, strong, and has a long body, with a broad, well-shaped rump, an excellent functional udder, and great legs,” says the Dutch dairy farmer from Coevorden about the dam of Delta Boulevard, that scored 85 points at classification.

Delta Margit

Margit knows what work means. As a heifer, she had a rough start due to an accident, but in her second and third lactations, the daughter of Martin proved her worth. In her second lactation (305 days), she produced 13,705 kg of milk with 4.19% fat and 3.45% protein (109 lactation value). In her current third lactation, she is projected to reach 114 lactation value. Notably, her somatic cell count remains extremely low, below 10 in her third lactation, and she is very fertile. She conceived each time from a single insemination and maintains a calving interval of just over a year.

Beautiful cows that know how to work

Delta Margit traces back to the Margreet cow family of VOF Van Aert–Cruijssen from Deurne (Netherlands). That’s also the family behind the proven bulls Lowlands Mangrove and Delta Smash. Breeder Luc van Aert has previously emphasized the fertility of his Margreet line, and that strong trait is also evident in their sons.
Daughters of Boulevard are expected to have an 11-day shorter interval between calving and first insemination than the daughters of an average bull, and their conception rate after insemination is about 5 percentage points higher.

Like their granddam, Boulevard’s daughters know how to work. Their sire transmits +1900 kg milk, +116 kg fat and protein, and +429 Inet. He also scores +7% CRV Health, including 108 for hoof health and 107 for somatic cell count.

Boulevard’s daughters will grow into well-developed, dairy-type cows with extra width in the rump. Their udders easily handle high milk production: shallow, well-attached at the front, and high at the rear. Teat length and placement are average, and the rear legs have a slightly more curved angle in side view. Boulevard is suitable for use on heifers and carries the BB and A2A2 protein variants.
